There are great podcasts, and then there are podcasts that just blow your mind. Matt and Mike from the Ultrasound Podcast accomplish that mind blowing experience that only an ultrasound device can accurately diagnose in some new fancy technique they only know. Never fear though, they are willing to share that knowledge through their podcast.Matt and Mike are experts in the field of bedside ultrasonography. Early in my medical training, I was exposed to ultrasound and its many benefits. The first time I saw an eFAST exam performed in the field was in the middle of London in the back of an ambulance with a patient who had suffered major traumatic injuries. This quick scan with a handheld device left me curious. It was a couple of years later while in PA school that I first found out about this podcast.
Quickly, my experience and knowledge grew. I went from no knowledge base to becoming proficient in a matter of months. Every podcast was watched multiple times hoping to pick up new information. Matched up with great educators in a number of rotations and some formal coursework, bedside ultrasound became an important aspect of my daily practice. Today, bedside ultrasound is a practical and easy extension of the physical exam. Ultrasound through this podcast became less intimidating. Matt and Mike do an excellent job at keeping the information relevant and staying up-to-date. Their sense of humor helps keep the audience engaged even when you should be bored out of your mind. In some ways, they are most likely my spirit animal (at least in ultrasound). Students that rotate with my tend to spend a lot of time with ultrasound. It helps open their eyes and they are able to see an often whole new world of medicine. The podcast is quite simply brilliant and anyone in the least bit interested in bedside ultrasound should go to this website and start listening to the podcast.
