Borrowing from the Best

So what is BEEM?  You may have seen that we will use the BEEM process when possible for critically appraising papers.  I'm glad you asked.  BEEM stands for Best Evidence in Emergency Medicine.  It has a series of tools that we really like and plan on using for the website located here.  If you just clicked on it, you realize that once again I borrowed from Ken's website, the Skeptics' Guide to Emergency Medicine.  What can I say?  Don't reinvent the wheel if you don't have to.

It is worth taking a look at the tools though.  We will be using this regularly and this will be the shortcut that I plan on using when reviewing these papers.  Consider adding it as a bookmark or favorite since we will continue to go back to this helpful site on the SGEM page.

If you are interested in becoming a BEEM Rater and helping the process on selecting pertinent articles, just click here.  Every person helping makes the process more effective.

Our first podcast is technically not our own.  However, we are on the show and discuss an important issue.  We review if abscess irrigation is needed with simple cutaneous abscesses.  Take a look at the information and listen to the podcast for more details.  We plan on publishing more with Ken Milne in the future.  He has been a huge help in getting TOTAL EM started.  If you have not previously been to his site, take a look around after listening to the first podcast.  His format is very similar to our plan.  Give us feedback on what you think.

Oh what a litigious society we live in.  My first official post is on a disclaimer.
