Disclaimer

Oh what a litigious society we live in.  My first official post is on a disclaimer.  

Please remember that TOTAL EM is produced in the United States of America.  It is intended primarily for emergency professionals.  However, we also do have some information that is geared for the public.  We will do our best to disseminate the most accurate information that we have possible to provide excellent care.

Although commercial products and/or devices may be discussed or their unapproved/investigative uses, we are not advocating such use without further discussion especially with your patients, colleagues, and facilities employed.  Furthermore, we do not have significant relationships that create, or may be perceived as creating, a conflict relating to this educational activity.  We receive no money from the pharmaceutical  or medical device industry.  If we are ever being sponsored by anyone which may potentially host a conflict of interest, we will let you know under our disclaimer section.  TOTAL EM may have a bandwidth sponsor or similar sponsorships which will be treated in the same way.  However, any such organizations that help with funding will not have any editorial control over the project.

We will make every reasonable effort to supply accurate information but  we do not assume any liability for errors or omissions. Because of the nature of this tool and its format, it is not recommended that they serve as the sole basis for patient evaluation and treatment.

Furthermore, any views or opinions expressed are that of the person giving the information and do not represent their employers or the organizations for which they may represent.  ​

We also want to remind you that this project is not meant to replace the advice of a healthcare professional.  It is meant to be informational and educational but not meant to replace the relationship between patient and provider.  

Just like you, we hate spam.  We will NOT use your email or any other information collected to pass on to a third party unless mandated by law or host policy.  

Patient privacy is of the utmost importance and this site is HIPAA compliant.  We remind people who wish to contribute to this site to keep their state and national laws, ethics, and basic privacy in perspective when sharing such information.  This project will avoid the use of any real patients and will change as much information as possible when discussing cases.  Cases will also take place in general, in the fictional Janus General Hospital network (thanks Scott Weingart for letting everyone apply for privileges there).  

If you wish to share any of the information found as part of the TOTAL EM project, please keep in mind that all information is copyrighted.  All information that are distributed to the public can be re-distributed via hard or electronic copy for free only if "TOTAL EM" is acknowledged as the author of the information within the actual media distributed.  

By posting or contributing to TOTAL EM, you agree to give TOTAL EM indefinite license to republish your comments in any format permitted.
