It has finally happened!  We have our very first podcast up and running.  It is short and to the point with only some quick information as to the TOTAL EM project in podcast form.  Click below to learn more about what is mentioned in the podcast and to listen to the podcast itself.

So what does TOTAL EM stand for?  It stands for Tools Of the Trade and Academic Learning in Emergency Medicine.  We are a new blog and podcast devoted to providing total care everywhere.

We are part of the FOAMED movement which means we provide Free and Open Access to Medical Education.  That’s right, the podcasts and blogs that I post are available for the low, low price of free.

Now what does this all mean?  Well, we provide access to medical education in various forms for both emergency medicine professionals and the public.  Our emphasis is providing education to those clinicians who are taking care of patients with evidence based medicine.  However, as we hope you are aware, not all of evidence is based on randomized controlled trials.  In fact, there are quite a few aspects based solely on expert opinion.  We want to help all those seeking medical knowledge to find the best information available and we strive to be part of that movement.

Remember, with everything in medicine, evidence changes over time.  No one is 100% accurate and to think otherwise is both foolish and dangerous.  It is important to stay up-to-date on the knowledge and research on your own to find the best evidence.  We are simply helping to facilitate this through information we obtain.  Although we strive to be as accurate and up-to-date as possible, information may change with time and the information presented may no longer be correct.  Please keep this in mind and use TOTAL EM like any other FOAMED resource; another part of your overall education.  If you want a full disclaimer, go to our website.

So who am I?  My name is Chip Lange and I am a physician assistant (or PA) in rural Missouri which is located in the United States.  The PA profession is somewhat confusing to try and describe so we have a separate blog going over that in detail.  To be concise, we are licensed medical professionals who are nationally certified and state license to work in collaboration with a physician.  We are able to see, diagnose, and treat our own patients.  Our roles vary significantly by setting as can be described in the blog.

We hope to keep things interesting and are very open to change.  If you have suggestions on how you think we can improve our podcast or blog, message us directly either by leaving comments or emailing us at [email protected] or even through social media such as Twitter or Facebook.

Please, please, please give us 5 stars and a review if possible. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.  Do anything and everything you can to promote us.  And if you do not think we are there yet, again, tell us what we can to improve.  In the meantime, thank you and continue to provide total care everywhere.
