For the first time ever, we delayed our normal podcast release to coincide with a very special reveal by Butterfly Network: the new and improved version of their device called the Butterfly iQ+.  Practical POCUS was able to get their hands on the brand new device so that you can see what it looks like.  There are videos to help compare the two devices and the unboxing of the Butterfly iQ+.  Stay tuned for updates as videos come out demonstrating the improvements when comparing the original to the new device.
Here is a quick breakdown on what has changed:
  • The next-generation Ultrasound-on-Chip™ has 15% faster frame rates and 60% faster pulse repetition frequency.
    • With 15% faster frame rates, there is improved clarity of the images obtained.
    • The 60% faster pulse repetition also means a sharper image.
    • There is better true-to-color flow as a result of these updates such as when using color Doppler during echocardiography.
    • It also provides more crisp, clear lung ultrasound imaging.
    • Now, the bladder volume can be assessed in approximately 4 seconds with an auto-calculation.
    • Needle Viz is a new function to help with better guiding needles during procedures such as during vascular access or nerve blocks.
  • Optimized electronics with new, power efficient FPGA.
  • 1.75D array beamforming for 85% reduction in elevation beam width.
  • 20% improved battery life thanks to an all new optimized battery and better thermal performance than its predecessor.
  • The actual head of the probe is 15% smaller and the probe length is 10% shorter than the original Butterfly iQ.
  • With 4-foot drop compliance and military-grade durability (tested beyond industry standards to MIL-STD-810G), the iQ+ has been designed to withstand 100G of shock pulse.
  • The Butterfly iQ+ has been IP67 tested (up to the line on the back of the device) above industry standards and has been designed to protect the device against dust and water.
  • Butterfly iQ+ comes with a replaceable, stomp- and compression-tested cable, the new cable has been engineered to make it simpler to use the probe with multiple devices and easier to replace when it has been damaged.

If this excites you and you are ready to make the leap and get the new Butterfly iQ+ go toPractical POCUS where you can get it bundled with an online ultrasound course.  One price pays for everything and you can use your CME funds to make this purchase!
